| Plague-Infested Fleas Confirmed Around DICK'S Sporting Goods Park - Live for Live Music Posted: 03 Aug 2019 09:23 AM PDT The confirmed presence of plague-infested fleas affecting prairie dog colonies located around DICK's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO has led to the cancelation in post-game fireworks following the Colorado Rapids game this evening, Saturday, August 3rd. While the sports-related news may not have an impact on most music fans around the country, it's worth noting that this is the same venue and area where Phish will close their 2019 summer tour with their annual Labor Day Weekend three-night "Phish Dicks" run on August 30th-September 1st. According to a press statement shared by the Rapids organization on Friday morning, Saturday's game against the Montreal Impact will still go on as planned, but the fireworks show planned following the match has been canceled. The announcement states that the fireworks cannot take place due to the fact that the launch area has been closed down by authorities after recommendations from the Tri-County Health Department and the City of Commerce City to do so. Additionally, parking at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park will be restricted to asphalt lots until further notice. "The health department feels that these precautions will greatly minimize the risk of exposure to patrons, players, and employees and help ensure a safe experience," the statement continues. "We will continue to monitor the situation in the lead up to the Rapids home game with Montreal Impact on Saturday at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park." Other popular areas which have reportedly been affected by the local infestation of fleas carrying the disease also includes The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. While there's still a month left for health officials to sort out this biologically dangerous dilemma before the arrival of Phish Dicks weekend, the presence of rodents infested with plague-infested fleas certainly throws a fun little obstacle into Phish's end-of-summer tour plans. On the positive side, there are not too many dangers out in the world strong enough to deter the band's fans from flocking to Denver to close summer. Just remember to pack some extra bug spray and steer clear of any rodents while out on the lot, and everything will be okay, probably. [H/T CPR News]  |
